An open letter to our community on inauguration week

Estimados miembros de la comunidad y simpatizantes,
Al entrar en esta primera semana de otra Administración Trump, queremos que sepan que CIS-NYC está aquí y listo para defender a nuestra comunidad inmigrante venga lo que venga. Sabemos que este es un momento extremadamente difícil, lleno de mucha incertidumbre y miedo. Ya hemos visto la crueldad infligida por una Administración Trump, pero también hemos visto la fuerza y la resistencia de nuestra comunidad frente a tal crueldad y odio.
Si bien este es solo el tercer día de la Administración Trump, ya se han tomado innumerables acciones que apuntan a los inmigrantes provocando el miedo dentro de nuestra comunidad. Recordemos que crear caos y miedo es su objetivo. Podemos responder a estos intentos de dividirnos y desestabilizarnos permaneciendo unidos en solidaridad y comunidad, educándonos y manteniéndonos informados, y buscando apoyo cuando lo necesitemos.
La Madre Cabrini encarnó el gran mandato de acoger al extranjero y cuidar de los inmigrantes. La misión de CIS-NYC de proporcionar servicios esenciales y de apoyo a los inmigrantes en el espíritu de la Madre Cabrini se mantiene intacta. Seguiremos proporcionando servicios legales de alta calidad que se adapten a los cambios en el sistema de inmigración, cuidando de nuestra comunidad a través de la consejería y grupos de apoyo, educando a los miembros de la comunidad y aliados a través de talleres «Conoce tus derechos», abogando contra las políticas que amenazan con separar a las familias a través de los esfuerzos de organización comunitaria, alimentando a las familias locales necesitadas, y mucho más. Sepan que no están solos en estos tiempos difíciles.

Dear Community Members & Supporters,
As we enter this first week of another Trump Administration, we want you to know that CIS-NYC is here and ready to defend our immigrant community whatever comes. We know that this is an extremely heavy moment, full of much uncertainty and fear. We have already seen the cruelty inflicted by a Trump Administration, but we have also seen the strength and resilience of our community when faced with such cruelty and hatred.
While this is only the third day of the Trump Administration, there have already been countless actions taken which target immigrants and invoke fear within our community. Remember that creating chaos and fear is their goal. We can respond to these attempts to divide and destabilize us by remaining united in solidarity and community, staying educated and informed, and seeking out support when we need it.
Mother Cabrini enfleshed the great mandate to welcome the foreigner and care for the immigrants. CIS-NYC's mission to provide essential services and support to immigrants in the spirit of Mother Cabrini remains unchanged. We will continue to provide high quality legal services that will adapt to the changing immigration landscape, to care for our community through short term counseling and support groups, to educate community members and allies through “Know York Rights” workshops, to advocate against policies that threaten to tear families apart through community organizing efforts, to feed local families in need, and more. Please know that you are not alone in navigating these challenging times.
