SOCIAL SERVICES

CIS-NYC's Social Services Program provides our immigrant community with a culturally sensitive environment while caring for their emotional and concrete needs.

  • Through Case Management, we support vulnerable and low income immigrants in accessing the benefits that they are eligible for and navigating complex social service systems. Our case managers identify their clients' needs, and make referrals for:

    · Housing

    · Healthcare

    · Education

    · Public benefits

    · Employment

    · Mental Health

    · …and more

Case managers assist their clients with filling out applications for diverse benefits, advocate for clients within a range institutions, accompany clients in the community if needed, and provide psycho-education about their clients’ rights.

  • CIS-NYC provides short term supportive counseling to help uninsured clients in crisis stabilize. Our team also connects clients to trusted mental health clinics for ongoing support.

  • Many immigrant parents feel isolated and without the tools to raise bi-cultural children. The Parenting Support Group "Semillas" seeks to empower Latino immigrant parents to raise healthy, well-adjusted children who will contribute to society. We discuss basic parenting strategies, and topics such as autism, parenting from afar (for the parents with children in their countries), bullying, the NYC public educational system, IEPs, and advocacy for parents, among others.

  • The Women’s Support group seeks to empower immigrant women by creating a community, and by creating a safe space for women to discuss their challenges and problems.

  • CIS-NYC partners with the Cornell University Cooperative Extension to provide basic nutrition workshops to improve the families' lifestyle and wellbeing.
