Leticia’s Story
Leticia is originally from El Salvador. When she came to CIS-NYC in 2024 she was living in Long Island with her three children. Leticia was facing eviction because she was unable to pay her rent and received no support from her children's father. CIS-NYC’s Case Managers helped her to obtain SNAP benefits, cash assistance, a childcare voucher, and health insurance. Through intensive case management, she experienced increased financial stability, access to essential healthcare, and secure, reliable childcare, which reduced stress and allowed her to focus on long-term goals for herself and her family. She also participated in our support groups and counseling, which helped her to develop a strong sense of self and become a more caring parent. She says, “I learned to set boundaries with others, to say "enough is enough."...I'm not afraid to express myself. I'm learning to love myself more. Emotionally, I'm improving a lot.”
